Hello~ I have decided to create this thread because many people come here and don't know where to start first. This is for the truly hopeless, so you can skim through the parts that are obvious for you.
FIRST
Take a look at this board. Read the threads there. You can ignore the 'Welcome!' thread if you like, but please read the other two. The rules are short and sweet, but they're still important.
SECOND
Once you have read the rules, it's time for you to become a little familiarized with the site and its plot. You will find the story-line here. It's not the best description ever, but it gives you an idea of what's going on. And yes, it is a little ridiculous, but come on. You have to admit that Dr. Seuss is pretty diabolical.
THIRD
Now it is time to create your character. You may create as many as you like, so long as you do it properly and follow the rules. I'm pretty lenient so you won't be penalized for anything, but I will tell you if something needs to change.
Go here. There you will see the two main threads at the top of all of the others, 'Profile Outline' and 'Seussite Outline'. These will always be at the top, so you don't have to worry about finding them.
Since you are new and reading this, chances are that you are going to create a normal character. Seussite characters are for more advanced players, so go ahead and ignore that thread for now unless you're feeling particularly ambitious and wicked. So, please click on the 'Profile Outline' thread and read the short paragraph at the top there.
Once you've copied what you need, go back to the board you were in with the two outline threads. Create a new thread and paste the information into there.
Now that you have what you need to create your character, start filling things out. Delete everything that's in the parenthesis; they only tell you what you need for each section. This is the page that you will want to keep up. Open everything else in new windows so that you don't lose your information.
Click on the links on the 'Profile Outline' page as you get to each part. They'll take you where you need to go. As a note, there are many classes to choose from, but some may be in development. If you find that one you really like is in development, go ahead and choose one of the other classes (or bug me into completing it). You can always change classes later; it's your character.
Don't leave the main class page once you've chosen, though. You will notice that the post your desired class is in has more information. Go ahead and look at the stats. Put in the values they give you into your profile. When you are done, it should look something like this:
Of course, the numbers probably won't be the same because every class is different, but that's an example. Those parts in the parenthesis are just to make it easier in the future so that you don't have to go back to the main class page every time you level up. If you feel lazy, you may even request the admin (me) to do your stats for you. Just send me a PM, and I'll get to it as soon as I can. Don't worry about bothering me; I don't mind.
Next, scroll down and make up a weapon. As long as it's within the boundaries of what your class allows, it can be whatever you like.
Once you have chosen a subclass, copy the skills that are in the description. Scroll down in your profile and paste them where it says 'Skills'. You may organize this however you like. But whichever way you choose, you must put your skills into there.
Since you are new, you will not have a special class. You can either delete that part, of just put "N/A" there.
Now you can scroll down to beneath your weapon. You can make up what your character looks like now. So long as you're not naked, everything's fine.
After that, there are your items and money. Since you are new, you have no items. But if you like, you can put things in there such as your character's keepsakes; however, they cannot have any actual use, such as restoring health. How much gold you start out with is stated (100).
Now, let's deal with your spells and the rest of your skills. Here is where you will go to get them. Carefully read the information there, and then choose what spells you would like. As with your subclass skills, copy and paste them into your profile. Whenever you get new skills or spells, you need to do that. Once you've chosen your spells, scroll down to the post with the skills, read the info and pick your skill.
When you're done with that, go down. You'll find another line, and beneath that is a couple more things. Fill out the rest, and then you're done! Make sure you have a subject for your post, preferably your character name, and then post!
FOURTH
I understand that the task of creating a profile for the first time can sorta wear out your mind. So if you like, you can always come back to this step later, or even not at all if for some reason you just want basic roleplaying. This section will be about battling, quests, etc. and it required reading for entering combat on this forum.
All of the information you will need is in here. Just read it all, and you'll be good!
FIFTH
Now, you are pretty much done. You can check out the Party Requests section to check out recruiting quests, or make one of your own. You can also get straight into roleplaying by posting in one of the fields. It's up to you how you want to go about things. The welcome box at the top of the screen also has useful quick links for easier navigation.
And that concludes the tutorial, folks~ Most importantly, if you have any questions, just ask. Your friendly neighborhood admin will be more than happy to assist you!
